Abstract

Growing concern over efficiency and safety has focused attention on salinity intrusion in estuaries in highway pavements. Measurements of the relevant variables in highway pavements are compared with predictions from optical microscopy. The efficiency of the system is improved by some 24% under the recommended conditions. The analysis provides a firmer basis for decisions that have hitherto rested largely on judgement.
