Abstract
The behaviour of thyristor-controlled converters has long posed difficulties for engineers concerned with thermal power stations, particularly under the conditions prevailing in developing countries. A mathematical model is developed and solved by means of statistical analysis. The predicted and observed values of thyristor-controlled converters differ by no more than 35% throughout the working range. It is hoped that the results will encourage the wider use of rational analysis in place of purely empirical rules.
