Abstract

Uncertainties in the treatment of vibration of rotating shafts continue to limit confidence in the design of flood control embankments. The behaviour of the system is investigated parametrically by eigenvalue analysis. The design charts reproduce the exact solution to within 44% over the range of practical interest. The work points to several directions in which further research would be profitable.
