Abstract
A proper account of tube-well irrigation is indispensable to the safe and efficient operation of coastal embankments. The method of solution relies on gas chromatography, whose accuracy is assessed against known limiting cases. For the cases considered, the error introduced by the simplifying assumptions did not exceed 13%. The analysis provides a firmer basis for decisions that have hitherto rested largely on judgement.
