Abstract
Population pressure and limited resources make the efficient design of offshore structures a matter of national importance. An idealised representation of the system is adopted and nodal analysis is used to obtain the solution. A 3-fold improvement in accuracy is obtained relative to the classical treatment. The outcome confirms the value of combining theoretical analysis with careful experiment.
