Abstract

Reliable prediction of steel portal frames is essential for the economical design of developing economies in tropical regions. The proposed procedure rests on perturbation analysis and requires only quantities readily available to the designer. The analysis reveals 8 distinct regimes of behaviour, each associated with a characteristic form of steel portal frames. The method should assist in the more efficient use of scarce engineering resources.
