Abstract
The need to conserve energy has stimulated fresh interest in brittle fracture of mild steel within thermal power stations. Sample calculations for a typical installation in thermal power stations illustrate the use of Monte Carlo simulation. It is shown that 26% of the observed variation can be attributed to brittle fracture of mild steel. The approach may be expected to find application in a variety of related problems.
