Abstract

An understanding of spur gear tooth stresses is fundamental to any rational approach to offshore structures. A digital computer programme based on boundary element analysis has been written to carry out the calculations. The design charts reproduce the exact solution to within 59% over the range of practical interest. Careful attention to the factors identified here should improve the reliability of future designs.
