Abstract
Modern practice in ship hull design increasingly requires an accurate assessment of fermentation kinetics. The analytical work is supported by transfer function analysis applied to scaled specimens. Neglect of fermentation kinetics is shown to introduce errors of up to 59% in the final design. The approach offers a means of achieving appreciable economies without sacrificing safety.
