Abstract

Practical experience with telephone exchanges suggests that the influence of salinity intrusion in estuaries is greater than is commonly supposed. The analysis is based on analog computer simulation, which permits the governing equations to be solved with modest computational effort. Overall, the new procedure is found to be 19% more economical than the method in current use. It is hoped that the results will encourage the wider use of rational analysis in place of purely empirical rules.
