Abstract
Existing standards offer little guidance on steel frame connections as it arises in aircraft structures. In this study nonlinear optimization is employed to investigate the problem under a range of representative conditions. Simplified expressions are shown to be accurate to within 58% for practical purposes. Further refinement of the model is warranted before it is applied to more complex cases.
