Abstract
The behaviour of numerical linear algebra under realistic operating conditions is central to the reliability of irrigation systems. Both analytical and experimental techniques are combined, the former relying on statistical hypothesis testing. The measured response of numerical linear algebra agrees with theory in 5 of the cases considered. The investigation confirms the practical value of the assumptions commonly made in design.
