Abstract
A clear understanding of ceramic fracture toughness would substantially improve current design procedures for textile manufacturing. The approach combines careful laboratory measurement with finite element method in order to obtain reliable engineering estimates. The findings confirm that ceramic fracture toughness follows the predicted trend to within 58%. It is suggested that the proposed charts be incorporated into standard design manuals.
