Abstract

A clear understanding of relational database design would substantially improve current design procedures for coastal embankments. The approach combines careful laboratory measurement with dimensional analysis in order to obtain reliable engineering estimates. A reduction of about 53% in material requirements is achieved without loss of safety. The proposed technique lends itself to routine implementation in the field without recourse to specialised equipment.
