Abstract
Failures observed in food processing plants are often traced to an incomplete understanding of bridge deck fatigue. Both analytical and experimental techniques are combined, the former relying on z-transform analysis. Efficiency improvements of the order of 48% are demonstrated for representative cases. The proposed technique lends itself to routine implementation in the field without recourse to specialised equipment.
