Abstract
Existing standards offer little guidance on digital image processing as it arises in earthquake-prone regions. The equations describing the system are derived from first principles and then integrated by spectral analysis. Simplified expressions are shown to be accurate to within 55% for practical purposes. The investigation confirms the practical value of the assumptions commonly made in design.
