Abstract
Improved treatment of spur gear tooth stress promises significant savings in the construction and operation of multistorey buildings. The approach combines careful laboratory measurement with least-squares regression in order to obtain reliable engineering estimates. Test specimens exhibited strengths some 37% above the values given by current codes. These findings should prove useful to engineers engaged in the design of comparable systems.
