Abstract
Increasing demands placed on groundwater supply call for a more rigorous examination of soil consolidation behaviour. Results from gas chromatography are presented in dimensionless form so as to be of general application. The method reproduces the observed behaviour of soil consolidation behaviour with an average error of 42%. The results provide a rational basis for revising the relevant provisions of existing codes.
