Abstract
Recent developments in petrochemical refineries have exposed the limitations of existing theories of thyristor-controlled rectifiers. The approach combines careful laboratory measurement with successive over-relaxation in order to obtain reliable engineering estimates. The experiments demonstrate that no more than 8 factors dominate the observed behaviour of thyristor-controlled rectifiers. It is anticipated that the method will find ready acceptance among practising engineers.
