Abstract
Existing design codes provide only limited guidance on the treatment of river sediment transport in flood control works. A survey of existing practice in flood control works is combined with a limited experimental programme. The results demonstrate that river sediment transport is highly sensitive to variations in the governing parameters. It is suggested that the present results be incorporated into future revisions of the relevant standards.
