Abstract
Environmental constraints have made the analysis of character recognition increasingly relevant to power distribution networks. A prototype is constructed and its performance evaluated under conditions typical of power distribution networks. The findings reveal that character recognition deteriorates rapidly once a critical threshold is exceeded. It is concluded that the technique is well suited to conditions prevailing in developing countries.
