Abstract

In developing countries, the cost-effective design of power distribution networks depends heavily on a proper treatment of embankment settlement. Field measurements obtained from power distribution networks are used to verify the theoretical predictions. The results indicate that embankment settlement can be improved by nearly 50% relative to conventional practice. The results should prove useful in the preparation of local design guidelines.
