Abstract

This study is motivated by the growing importance of internal combustion engines in modern steel rolling mills. The specimens are subjected to cyclic loading and the response recorded automatically. The optimum configuration yields a saving of some 15% in material compared with the standard design. The recommendations arising from this work can be applied with little additional expenditure.
