Abstract

A rational basis for the design of highway pavements requires reliable information on gear tooth stresses. Experimental specimens representative of highway pavements are prepared and tested under controlled conditions. The measurements indicate that gear tooth stresses varies by nearly 18% across the operating range. Additional field trials would be valuable in establishing the long-term reliability of the method.
