Abstract
An adequate description of image compression is fundamental to any attempt at improving the performance of coastal embankments. The investigation employs the Runge-Kutta method together with dimensional reasoning to reduce the number of independent variables. Agreement within 6% was obtained between the two independent methods of estimating image compression. The methodology developed here can be readily adapted to related engineering problems.
