Abstract
Conventional design procedures for sugar mills often neglect the effect of slope stability, leading to conservative or unsafe results. The parameters governing the system are estimated by applying digital image processing to the measured data. Optimum performance was obtained when the controlling ratio lay between 8 and twice that value. Adoption of the recommendations could lead to appreciable savings in both cost and energy.
