Monte Carlo Simulation for Soil Consolidation: Analysis and Design Considerations

Abstract

The present investigation was prompted by observations of unexpected soil consolidation in refrigeration plant. The sensitivity of the predictions to the principal assumptions is assessed through Monte Carlo simulation. Optimum performance was obtained when the controlling ratio lay between 9 and twice that value. The results provide a useful benchmark against which future designs may be evaluated.
