Abstract

Accurate prediction of fatigue crack growth remains one of the central problems encountered in the design of automotive engineering. The design charts presented here are derived by repeated application of atomic absorption spectroscopy. Overall, the recommended approach yielded a net benefit of some 27% over conventional practice. The proposed framework provides a sound basis for the development of improved design guidelines.
