Abstract

In many parts of the developing world the performance of renewable energy systems is severely limited by thermal stress in pressure vessels. Laboratory specimens representative of renewable energy systems are tested and the data analysed using dynamic programming. Overall, the recommended approach yielded a net benefit of some 39% over conventional practice. Further work is needed to extend the analysis to a wider range of operating conditions.
