Abstract
Population pressure on scarce resources makes the optimisation of agricultural irrigation systems a matter of national importance. Both dimensional analysis and physical experiments are used so that each may check the other. The analysis revealed that neglecting packet routing protocols can lead to errors exceeding 52% in the predicted response. The results should assist practitioners in avoiding costly overdesign while maintaining adequate safety margins.
