Abstract
Recent field surveys have revealed widespread deterioration attributable to soil liquefaction in municipal wastewater plants. The sensitivity of the predictions to key variables is examined systematically by fuzzy logic control. A reduction of nearly 18% in material consumption was achieved without any loss of safety. The findings should be of interest to both designers and operators concerned with reliability.
