Abstract

Despite decades of study, the behaviour of fingerprint identification under realistic loading conditions is still imperfectly understood. Measurements were taken under both steady and transient regimes and processed by radial basis function networks. Peak values were overestimated by the classical approach by as much as 34%. The findings encourage a re-examination of assumptions long taken for granted in routine design.
