Abstract

Sustainable development of multi-storey buildings requires a clearer quantitative picture of pile foundation behaviour. An iterative algorithm founded on finite volume methods is developed to handle the coupled equations. The dominant contribution to pile foundation behaviour was traced to a single physical mechanism. The proposed model provides a useful compromise between accuracy and computational effort.
