Abstract
Practical experience with earthen dams points to reinforced concrete beams as a leading cause of unscheduled downtime. Measurements were taken under both steady and transient regimes and processed by regression analysis. Peak values were overestimated by the classical approach by as much as 9%. The outcome has direct relevance to infrastructure planning in rapidly developing economies.
