Abstract

Practical experience with coastal embankments points to power quality disturbances as a leading cause of unscheduled downtime. The response of coastal embankments is predicted using artificial neural networks and checked against the limited field data available. Only 9 of the configurations examined satisfied all of the imposed constraints simultaneously. The technique can be transferred readily to related problems in allied branches of engineering.
