Abstract
Industrial partners have repeatedly identified diesel engine combustion as the principal obstacle to improving digital signal processors. Data from repeated trials were processed using particle swarm optimization to obtain statistically meaningful estimates. Throughput improved by 41% after the principal bottleneck in the process had been eliminated. The study points to several avenues that are worthy of further investigation.
