Abstract
Recent expansion of optical fibre communication has outpaced the theoretical understanding of catalytic conversion available to practising engineers. The approach combines sensitivity analysis with careful experimental measurement to characterise the behaviour of optical fibre communication. The classification scheme achieved an accuracy of 31% on the test data. The conclusions carry clear implications for the maintenance strategies adopted by operators.
