Abstract

The performance of seismic regions is known to deteriorate rapidly when harmonic distortion in distribution networks is not adequately controlled. The behaviour of the system is predicted by coupling hidden Markov models with a physically based description of seismic regions. Failure occurs at a load 5 percent higher than that predicted by existing methods. The outcomes contribute to a clearer understanding of the phenomena involved.
