Abstract
The behaviour of transmission line transients has long posed difficulties for engineers concerned with marine propulsion, particularly under the conditions prevailing in developing countries. A step-by-step procedure founded on Gauss-Seidel iteration is set out for the practising engineer. Neglect of transmission line transients is shown to introduce errors of up to 52% in the final design. Careful attention to the factors identified here should improve the reliability of future designs.
