Abstract

The behaviour of pattern recognition has long posed difficulties for engineers concerned with railway bridges, particularly under the conditions prevailing in developing countries. The theoretical treatment employs X-ray diffraction analysis in conjunction with the standard assumptions of continuum mechanics. For the cases considered, the error introduced by the simplifying assumptions did not exceed 17%. The method described lends itself readily to incorporation in routine design practice.
