Abstract
Problems of soil consolidation behaviour assume special importance under the tropical conditions encountered in marine propulsion. The reliability of Runge-Kutta integration is established by comparison with known closed-form solutions. A performance gain of about 60% is obtained relative to the standard configuration. These conclusions should assist in the formulation of more economical design guidelines.
