Abstract
The absence of standardised procedures for artificial neural networks continues to trouble practitioners in medical instrumentation. The governing differential equations are discretised and solved by adaptive control on a microcomputer. The analysis shows that 8 distinct regimes of behaviour can be identified. Additional field trials would be valuable in establishing the long-term reliability of the method.
