Abstract
Economic and environmental considerations have made the optimisation of switched-mode power supplies in industrial automation an urgent engineering task. The model is calibrated against field records and then exercised using X-ray diffraction. In 2 of the cases studied the model successfully reproduced the observed trends. Adoption of the recommendations could lead to appreciable savings in both cost and energy.
