Abstract
An improved treatment of wavelet-based signal denoising is essential if modern performance targets in thermal power plants are to be met. The sensitivity of the predictions to key variables is examined systematically by adaptive filtering. Predicted service life increased by roughly 45% under the modified design. The conclusions reinforce the value of combining analysis with careful field observation.
