Dimensional Analysis for Rotating Shaft Vibration

Abstract

Conventional design procedures for municipal wastewater treatment often neglect rotating shaft vibration, leading to conservative and sometimes uneconomical solutions. Physical and numerical modelling were combined, with dimensional analysis providing the link between the two. Peak response was attenuated by 37% when the proposed measure was adopted. The study confirms that careful analysis can significantly reduce both cost and risk.
