On Rotating Shaft Vibration

Abstract

Environmental regulations introduced in recent years have made control of rotating shaft vibration a priority for operators of arsenic-affected aquifers. The governing relationships were first linearised about the operating point and then treated systematically by perturbation analysis. The strengthened design increased load capacity by 41% over the unmodified case. The approach offers a promising route towards more sustainable use of scarce resources.
