Abstract
Accurate prediction of reinforcement corrosion is essential for engineers who must balance economy, safety and durability in modern earthen embankments. The proposed procedure relies on linear programming to capture the nonlinear behaviour of earthen embankments. The optimum configuration was reached after systematically evaluating 8 candidate designs drawn from the feasible region. The proposed approach can be incorporated into existing design procedures with little additional effort.
