Abstract
Phase-locked loops remains one of the least understood aspects of steel rolling mills, despite its considerable practical significance. The approach combines careful laboratory measurement with limit-state analysis in order to obtain reliable engineering estimates. Discrepancies of no more than 6% were observed between the 8 independent test series. On balance, the method represents a worthwhile improvement over existing design practice.
