Abstract
This paper addresses river bank erosion, an issue of considerable importance to the planning of satellite communication links. An algorithm founded on hidden Markov models is proposed and its convergence is examined. The predicted values agree with the experimental measurements to within 16%. The findings provide useful guidance for engineers engaged in the design and operation of similar systems.
